Spotify x Notes Music Integration

Context

We partnered with Spotify to build a new way for users to share what they were currently listening to in real-time with friends. The feature allowed for easy account linking between Spotify and Instagram. In addition to sharing your currently streaming songs, your friends could add the song directly to their Liked Songs on Spotify. We also added a new option to the Spotify share sheet to share directly to Notes.

What it Looks Like

My Role

• Served as technical POC in discussions with Spotify
• Led team of 3 engineers to build this on Instagram side
• Leveraged Spotify’s APIs to build account linking flows and helped define the server-side contract between Spotify and Instagram
• Built iOS implementation
• Designed our product’s first 3P API to allow for sharing a song from Spotify directly to Notes (new option in Spotify share sheet)
